If you came to this blog via the CRIZMAC website, you’re probably already familiar with who we are and what we do. But for those who may have taken a more roundabout route, let’s begin by saying that CRIZMAC began life as a publisher of art and cultural education materials. That was over 25 years ago now, and we continue to publish an annual catalog of resources that is mailed to teachers, schools and institutions nationwide. The fact that we have managed to stay in business this long in a field (art + education???) that is constantly under siege is good indication of our tenacity (or perhaps just plain stubbornness).
In addition to curriculum, we carry a wide range of folk art, books and music. In the art education field, we are known for being one of the first (if not the first) company to take a truly multicultural approach, with an emphasis on folk art and diversity (in a field that previously focused on the art of “dead, white males.”)
Over time, we grew and expanded, adding other aspects to our business:
Through our Journeys of Art and Soul travel program, teachers and others with an interest in art and culture can join us for unique tours to both domestic and international destinations. Educators are eligible for professional development and/or graduate credit for their participation.
And if you’re in Tucson, Arizona as a resident or visitor, we hope you’ll visit our retail Marketplace, which offers an enticing selection of folk art, books, music, jewelry, gifts items, and much more. You may also be interested in attending one of our popular ARTiculations lectures, a part of our free monthly lecture series. Lectures are generally held on the second Tuesday of the month (check our calendar for schedule and topics)
